Why reduced capital budget doesn’t mean stopping your digital ambitions

August 13, 2025

More housing providers, both in the private and public sectors, are waking up to the need to invest in new technology to support people in our communities requiring extra care, and to give their families greater peace of mind.

In this article we lay out the challenges facing customers across the three countries in which we operate, with a particular focus on the UK where the deadline for telecare system upgrades is looming.  With limited capital budget it can be tempting to take a shortcut, but it’s important to note that capital investment is not the only option to finance a more connected approach to adult social care .

We also explain how the cheapest and quick fixes risk innovation in your organisation, halting digital transformation and wider strategic ambitions including reducing your impact on the environment.

A data-led digital transformation is here

The fast evolution of AI and machine learning has brought an array of products, software and services onto the market that are transforming the way that care is delivered and accelerating the switch to a more prevention led model of care. The capabilities are endless – from scheduling repairs and digital nurse calls to preventing falls and delivering care itself.

At Everon Group we offer a truly connected approach to the digital services and solutions that we provide across the UK, Sweden and Finland. That can be a total managed service – from installation and programming to control centre monitoring, maintenance and service – or in partnership with other suppliers, providing a bespoke addition to your care support delivery network.

Helping to deliver strategic objectives

We’re worked with some of the biggest supported housing providers with solutions that have supported the delivery of their key objectives and goals – from going digital to improving their environmental credentials.

The long-term strategy of Clarion Housing, for example, is to work towards net zero carbon emissions across all its operations, including supported housing.  As part of their digital transformation strategy Home Group, meanwhile, are investing in making a meaningful impact to the communities they serve, including continuing to takes their responsibility for sustainability seriously.

We’re helping both these leading UK housing associations to achieve their wider ambitions. With Everon Group delivering cloud based wireless solutions and promoting a true connected approach to services across the whole estate, this supports housing and care providers in reducing their existing carbon footprint – including reduced travel time for maintenance with most fixes completed remotely.

Making it easier to budget for upgrading care systems

We understand that upgrading existing systems comes at a cost.

That’s why we’ve put in place a range of commercial options to support you with your digital transformation ambitions. There can be a temptation to go for quick fix solutions, but there is risk in going down that route. By helping you to spread the cost through leasing, for example, your organisation can invest now in the latest cloud-based wireless systems that deliver long-term benefits and efficiencies for service delivery.

The key drivers for investment in technology enabled care, of course, include demographic change and the challenges of recruiting to meet demand for health and social care support.  The solutions that we provide as a company are playing a vital role in responding to these challenges and the growing desire by governments, across our operating area, to switch to a more cost efficient, prevention led model of care.

Digital switchover coming to the UK

In the UK there is an additional pressure facing supported housing and independent living home providers as they consider future analogue to digital upgrades.  With the deadline looming for the end of analogue powered telecare systems there is a pressing need for action to ensure continuity of care.

Peter Kerly, VP for Global Sales, Everon Group, said: “This is an exciting time of change for those on the front line of adult social care as the full potential of technology to meet today’s challenges become a reality. We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to access the benefits these changes can make to the quality of their service.”

“The UK will soon join Sweden and Finland in switching off analogue telephone lines that have supported telecare services nationwide for decades. The deadline of January 2027 is looming fast. Longer term challenges around changing demographics and staff recruitment also continue to affect all three countries in which we operate. These are driving the need to upgrade legacy systems. With budget challenges, cheaper options will have been brought to the table.  Sadly, these will only buy time and not deliver on any ambition to improve service delivery.

“Many supported housing and independent living home providers are finally recognising the value of data-led proactive services as part of the solution to managing demand.  This, of course, involves upgrading existing solutions. Our leasing scheme, for example, is an additional commercial option to reduce the financial headache our customers face in making the transition.”
